Shwmae Day

Whitchurch High School Celebrates Shwmae Day with Welsh Language and Culture

Whitchurch High School was once again buzzing with excitement as our Languages faculty led the annual Shwmae Day celebrations. Students across the school embraced the spirit of Shwmae Day, participating in a range of activities designed to encourage the use of the Welsh language. From traditional Welsh games and friendly competitions to taste-testing local Welsh foods, the day was packed with fun and learning. A particular highlight was the Welsh tongue twister challenge, where students enthusiastically took on the tricky task of mastering some challenging Welsh phrases, all in the name of “rho gynnig arni” (have a go)!

The day was not only a celebration of our Welsh identity but also an important reminder of the value of language learning in fostering cultural pride and connection. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with Welsh traditions and demonstrate their growing confidence in using the language.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day a resounding success!
