Our year 11 students successfully completed their learning pathways and employer interviews during the week beginning 13th February 2023. Each student received an interview with a senior member of staff in the school to discuss their career aspirations and individual learning pathway. We were impressed with the research that students had put in prior to their interview, with the vast majority having clear ideas and plans in place for their future. A team of careers advisors from Careers Wales were also on hand to support our students, with many also being receiving a careers interview on the day.
Following their pathways interview all students then moved on to be interviewed by representatives from local businesses. Each student submitted an application form and a copy of their CV prior to receiving a formal interview. We saw a number of nervous faces prior to their interviews, but all left with their heads held high, experiencing a real sense of achievement. We were extremely proud of our students and the effort that they put into each of the interview sessions, they were a real credit to the school. The following feedback provided by the businesses leading the interviews gives a flavour of how well the students did:
‘I’ve been really impressed by the students, they have engaged well and have a lot to give.’
‘The pupils were very intelligent and polite and generally very impressive and a credit to the school.’
‘It was good to hear the children talk so positively about the school and the community here at Whitchurch.’
‘Watching students grow under the pressure of an interview and gain valuable experience was such a rewarding experience.’
We would like to thank all of the businesses and organisations that supported us over the interview days. The time and effort that they put in was very much appreciated by all involved. Also, a huge thanks to Careers Wales and their support in making the event such a success.
