Whitchurch High School again based its successful higher education information evening for parents and students. A big thank you to the thirteen Universities and other providers from all over the country who accepted our invitation to attend which is great testament to our reputation for equipping our students for the next step in their education.
Presentations were delivered in the Upper School Hall by Progress Leader and UCAS coordinator Mrs Kirsty Davies to parents and pupils outlining the process of applying to university, the contents of a UCAS application, school references, and guidance on the personal statement. Another presentation by the University of South Wales guided parents on how student finance works and differs from the system in place in England, and how students apply for it.
In the KS4 Canteen, representatives from Cardiff, Cardiff Met, South Wales, Swansea, Birmingham, Plymouth, Bristol and Oxford Universities were in attendance to answer any questions from parents and pupils and provide additional guidance and advice. Additionally, for those looking for an alternative option to university, representatives from Careers Wales, SW Training, Sgil Cymru, Educ8 Training and ITEC Skills were available to discuss options for entering the world of work and degree apprenticeships.
The evening was well placed in the week before a busy few days of activities designed to support students in their preparation for higher education. We hope this gave parents an insight into not only the whole application process but also into the support programme offered by the school.
