Year 11 Visit New College, University of Oxford

Several Year 11 students attended an open day held at New College, University of Oxford. The students were able to gain an insight into life as an Oxford student with a tour around the area, contextual information, advice and guidance regarding applications and the UCAS process.

The students were guided by the Head of Outreach & Communications at New College who shared his vast knowledge and details about the university he once attended. Guided through various quads and gardens of New College, the chapel and eventually reaching a courtyard where Harry Potter had been filmed. After this informative and interesting tour of the college had concluded, they headed to the spectacular dining hall where students received a two-course meal with a plethora of mains and desserts.

The benefits of Oxford University were discussed such as the facilities, career support, scholarships and the 'copyright library' that stores a copy of every book ever to have been published in the UK.

"It was both a humbling and informative experience to stand where some of the most intelligent people in the UK have stood before. I felt honoured to have the privilege and opportunity to be taken to New College. The campus was beautiful, and it was nice to see some locations that I recognised from films and tv series filmed on site. The presentations were eye-opening and addressed some of the stereotypes surrounding Oxford University and its students. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and I am thankful that this opportunity is on offer in this school for students like myself."
